It is certainly somewhere. Far far away. But to be fair to the place, it has been home for my parents etc for over 30 years. Eastbourne was full.;)

Now then eastbeast, don't you be disparaging too, you ain't been here have you? Ask RoyV who has! OK, Mark was here for a while and didn't like it, I've lived here most of my life and for me it's paradise. A damned cold paradise right now I must admit with road closures all over the place from snow and ice although the views are fantastic with the heavy snow low down on the mountains. And I see on the news that you are in a heatwave! Dreink lots of water, keep out of the sun as far as possible between 11am and 4pm, wear a good strong sunscreen - SPF30, a shirt and a widebrimmed hat

TO get back to the topic of democracy, our Grand Master who holds the position for 2 years is voted on, each Lodge has a vote. Also our District GMs are elected by the Lodges in his District

Thanks for that Keith. Do you feel you would be less of a Mason if your Lodge did not have the power to vote? Is the work in the Temple more special because of that empowerment?

For those Lodges under Grand Lodges that are deemed " undemocratic", is the work less important and therefore less valid than those that give the vote to individual Lodges or individuals themselves?

Or is "Democracy" or lack of it just another stick to beat non conformers with until there is uniformity to a common mediocrity, like the Borg?

???

No matter - perhaps in a smaller pond, the bigger fish need to be proved to be accepted by all the others, who are closer to being their peers.  In UGLE, we are fairly distant, at the Lodge level, from the Rulers of the Craft, and don't usually care who has chosen them.  Perhaps we place great reliance on the integrity of our "employers" these days?

The "bigger fish" need to get over themselves. The pool is only too small due to the size of their heads..

That last sentence of yours captures the essence of the whole point of this thread.

"Freemasonry" in my humble opinion is not about the wants of individuals per se, nor is it about the imposition of the will of the few upon the many with enforced notions of "democracy", the dogma of "sexual equality", or the persecution and revilement of religions.

I have never met the members of UGLE executive, but I hear they are most pleasant, decent men and quite knowledgeable.

Perhaps they will continue, despite the concerted attempts at interference from outsiders.
