I watched this episode of Midsomer tonight. Second time I've come across a Detective played by John Nettles invloved in a Masonic Mystery.

It was nice, for a change, that the murders were not because of Freemasonry although most of the major characters except Barnaby were Freemasons.

Unfortunately, it had the usual silliness aside from  the made up gobbledy gook Ritual. Some examples:

J.O.B = equals the 3 Masonic deities Yahweh?? Osiris and of course Ba'al.

Every Apprentice gets given a curvy poignard, complete with their initials and date of Initiation. Although much cooler than a Bible and By-laws I think.

Shovel and sledge hammer in the middle of the Lodge carpet, made me giggle.

But at least they were actually wearing proper Regalia, rather than cloaks n' hoods n' stuff:D

Trouble is non-Masons will watch this stuff and believe that because it's on TV it must be true. Which is a shame because I reckon Midsomer Murders are compulsory viewing (we're lucky enough to get them on ABC and Foxtel).

"most of the major characters except Barnaby were Freemasons."

Wow!  Since, according to Joe, all policemen are on the Square, how did Barnaby rise so high in the ranks?

"Every Apprentice gets given a curvy poignard, complete with their initials and date of Initiation."

Rather like an SS dagger?

"Shovel and sledge hammer in the middle of the Lodge carpet, made me giggle."

Sounds more like demolition than building!

"But at least they were actually wearing proper Regalia, rather than cloaks n' hoods n' stuff"

Talk about taking all the fun out of it!

Thanks Mike, I'll try to watch it on catch-up.

Message to Dave: I'm glad you watch our TV series - WA does not have enough people in it to support the number of victims!

Tried to find this on catch up for ITV but was not able to find it.

It seems like this was broadcast early 2007 so as they only keep them for 30 days it wouldn't show on there :-S

It's not the only thing where they stretch reality. Apparently in one shown recenly Midsomer was very clearly within the London Transport area going by the buses and bus stops that appeared!

Don't take the number of violent deaths too seriously - it's only a story! :D

I'm afraid much of what appears on Australian TV, especially the commercial channels, is cr*p. Thank goodness for ABC, SBS and some of the Foxtel channels. I have to say it, British TV offerings are much better than anybody else's. Message to British TV production companies: Please don't dumb it down!!

And you're right. If Barnaby were to come to Perth, WA, the population would plummet!

Ohhh dear, Dave, you've spoken too late.  ITV, it says in my paper, is cancelling Heartbeat, The Royal (both nice nostalgic dramas), The Bill is down to once a week from twice (you will be catching up with us soon, given that if there's any chance of an Awards Ceremony or football, it's not on anyway), Tonight is the final Hustle (have there been very many this series*) and English TV is likely to consist of just "reality" or "talent" (a word that doesn't quite cut it) shows in future.  Oh, yes, and Australian soaps! :w00t:

On the other hand, Mike saw a very illuminating episode of Midsomer Murders the other day (I'm still waiting for my personal dagger :crying: ), there was the three-part "Whitechapel" that featured the GQS bogs, and I'm enjoying "Pie in the Sky" from 14 years ago which is being repeated every day* on ITV3.

* I remember the good old days when a successful series ran to 13 episodes per season: ie, you saw that many each year!

Note also, that Gary the sous-chef in "Pie" has lost some hair and is now "Eddie the Barman" in "Hustle" - same scouse accent!

Having visited friends in Adelaide several times, I am aware of all the good old BBC/ITV stuff you watch over there.  Have no fear - you will see the Gents at Freemasons Hall before long! :smooooth:
