There are 3 degrees in Craft Freemasonry. On the night (or day) you join you will receive your first. You can at that stage watch as many first degrees as you want and can go to other Lodges to see visit if you wish but you will only be able to see first degrees and the normal admin bits of Lodge meetings.

If you wish to go and visit other Lodges as an Entered Apprentice (first Degree) it is advisable, at least on the first visit to a Lodge, to go with another Brother as you will probably not know anyone and may have trouble proving you are a Mason.

Once you have your Third degree you can travel around with much more gusto and can see the 1st 2nd and 3rd degree's, which is basically all of it.

Once you have your third degree you may if you wish join other side orders that are open to Master Masons. You can't go and watch these unless you are a member though...

You could just turn up but that is considered bad form, especially if you wish to dine as that would need to be arranged in advance.

Masons generally inform Lodges that they are attending out of politeness.

As a new Mason it would be unwise to just turn up. Not because you are not entitled to but rather due to the fact that if you don't know anyone and can't prove yourself properly it is going to get embarrassing for everyone concerned when you don't get let in.

Also please bear in mind that as a new Mason you will not necessary be allowed to stay in for the whole meeting ergo it would be wise to check that you are not wasting your time by, for example, going to a third degree where you will be sitting outside most of the night...

Greetings New to Craft,

Visiting is one of the very good experiences in Freemasonry. To meet new people, see how other Lodges do things and enjoy the hospitality of other Lodges can be very rewarding.

However it would be wise to ask someone to accompany you until you are raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Usually your proposer or seconder is a good person to do this with you. It is also good form to get your Lodge Secretary to contact the secretary of the Lodge you intend to visit and make the arrangement unless you are known to the people there.

Cost varies depending on where in the country you are and how many times a year the lodge meets.

My lodge fee's per year are appx £250, thats London
