I just stumbled across this, it's launching in November:

http://kentclub.org/index.phpI'm a member of the Connaught Club, although haven't been to many of their events.

What do people think of it as an idea?

Yes it's been around for a while.

We don't have a club as this in Michigan. Masonry is Masonry no mater what age.

On the face of it, it appears to be a good idea.
However it also could be dangerous!

It's the follow on from Connaught Club (for under 35s) by the look of it - for those aged 35-49.

I have disagreed with the principal of age-related organsiations on this Forum before - I feel it is potentially devisive.

I too don't like the idea of separating our members on the basis of their age. I think I may have mentioned before I think these kind of non-Lodge clubs should be aimed at new members rather than members of a certain age.

Hopefully they'll do another one soon that is open for 50 - 100 year olds and then we can all join them and then push for them to combine and become one club open to Freemasons aged between 21 and 100 who want meet socially and outside of normal Lodge meetings.

I think it's a good idea.

I love my Brothers dearly and one of the things I love most about the festive board is the opportunity to socialise with people from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups.

However I wouldn't want to go clubbing with most of them. "Sorry, Brother you may be, party animal you are not"

I used to spend the summers with my Grandparents and one of the things I used to remember most was the dinner parties my Grandparents used to have. The majority of the guests were Freemasons and their partners as my Grandfather was an active Freemason. Also my Father (a Freemason) had a lot of social Freemason friends.

The point to this is that both my Fathers and my Grandfathers friends where their own age.

Set up a club for 50 to 100 year olds.

What is the issue with young Masons building social relationships with other young men (whom they will inherently have more in common) outside of the Lodge? It doesn't mean that they will stop talking to the old folks. Just that they might find another dimension to and further enjoy their Freemasonry and as a result may attract more young men into the Craft...

I subscribe to the view that it is divisive.  Freemasonry is a brotherhood without boundaries.  If you want to go clubbing with people your own age, go clubbing with them.  I don't see that there is a need to have a "special" club that bars anyone over a certain age.  I dare say there are a few young brethren who are more boring old farts than some of us elder brethren.  What next, a club for masons who don't go to bed before 2am?

If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have got to now if I'd done it then?

I think it is a great idea if we had a club for say members of the craft between 18 and upwards, oh wait we already have that, it's called freemasonry.

Why do people think that they need to put up more barriers?
