I have just been informed by our Master that I have a FC Lecture in Lincoln Park the same night. Let's see if "I could kill two birds with one stone" that night. Lincoln Park temple is a 6 mile drive.

This is a 'must', Cherup! Dr John is an excellent speaker and the projected photos give a fascinating glimpse into the subject. If, afterwards, you are able to speak with him, you may wish to introduce yourself by saying you were encouraged to come by 'the brother who took T.O.H. to Sheffield'. He will know exactly who and what is meant and might explain that to you!

I'm hope to be there around 5:30 or so and may get a chance to meet him before the lecture. I only live four miles form Scottish Rite building. At eight the evening the Master of my lodge want me to help in a FC lecture at Lincoln Park lodge.

Taken from the link provided by Tom in his original post THE PRESTONIAN LECTURESHIP William Preston (1742-1818), a very active Freemason at the end of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth centuries, developed an elaborate system of Masonic instruction, by means of catechetical lectures, which was practiced in association with the Lodge of Antiquity of which he was, at one time, Master. At his death, he bequeathed to Grand Lodge the sum of £300, the interest from which was to be applied to some well informed Mason to deliver annually a Lecture on the First, Second or Third Degree of the Order of Masonry, according to the system practiced in the Lodge of Antiquity during Preston’s Mastership. With occasional intermissions, lectures on his method were accordingly delivered from 1820 until 1862, when the Lectureship was allowed to lapse. In 1924 it was revived, with certain modifications of the original scheme: the lecturer delivering a paper on a Masonic subject of his own selection. The Prestonian Lecture is the only lecture held under the authority of the United Grand Lodge of England and, with the exception of the years 1940-46, regular appointments have been made annually since 1924 to the present day.

Just to add that you can buy the Lectures from 1925 until 1987 in the form of three books, they are excellent to just randomly delve into every now and then. The lectures are very wide ranging for example: 1925 - The Development of the Trigradal System, 1933 - The Old Charges in Eighteenth Century Masonry, 1937 - The Inwardness of Masonic Symbolism in the Three Degrees, 1938 - The Mason Word, 1954 The Freemason's Education, 1957 - The Transition from Operative to Speculative Masonry. This is just a tiny taster of the Lecture.

from reading bits here and there ive been seeing things about "lectures" in the lodge and things like that. i dont know if im allowed to know, so just shoot me down if im asking things i shouldnt yet know. but can any of the lodge members stand up and lecture to the rest of the lodge about any subject he studies? or does it have to be masonry related? apart from helping his brothers get a feel for different fields, do the brothers that write papers and lecture their lodge get anything for doing it? not money obviously, but browny points/promotion etc? do these lectures happen during normal lodge meetings/LoI/or special "lecture" evenings etc..?

From a practical point of view, the business agenda for craft Lodge meetings is arrived at by discussion in the Lodge committee meetings, in which the Master and the Director of Ceremonies are fairly key players.
There are certain lectures which are actually recitations. Some others are catechetical and are also recited from memory. Still others are papers researched by brethren and delivered from notes, sometimes with visual aids. All are on Masonic related subjects. However, all these are by pre-arrangement in committee, as Lodges are engaged in a wide range of Masonic work. With the low number of meetings in some Lodges, the opportunities for lectures can be few and far between. The same paucity applies, unfortunately in my opinion, to Lodges of Instruction, as many have become liitle more than 'Lodges of Rehearsal'!
There are some Lodges that do little else but deliver papers, such as Past Masters' Lodges in the Provinces and several Masonic research Lodges.
