I don't know if any of you are Sherlock Holmes fans like me but if you want to see him brought right up to date in a fantastic way I would thoroughly reccommend the new BBC1 3 parter.

When I tuned in last night, I thought the cast was a bit dubious but my goodness it knocked my socks off. A brilliant interpretation of Bro. Conan-Doyle's creation.

If you missed it you can watch it on BBC I-player here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t8wp0

Mike

I thoroughly enjoyed it too. Did anyone spot the Royal & Select Masters tie being worn?

Enjoyed the programme Chris - but missed the tie...going to go back and find it though

Only looked briefly (for the tie - must get a life !) and there is a very similar one at about 9:30 minutes in - however, the pattern goes Red, Gold(yellow), Blue(or Grey - difficult to tell) and the R&S tie goes Red, Blue, Gold(yellow).

I take it you mean this :)one - I'm off to actually watch the programme now!:D

His tie was the Corps tie of the Royal Army Medical Corps. At the beginning there was a shot of a white cup with the Corps cap badge displayed on it. Dr Watson is portrayed as an army doctor, and that is the Corps he would have served in - I should know - I served in it myself for a number of years. ;)

Best wishes
Eldmar.

Mike, thought you might like to know, in our lodge is a attendance register, date 1900 / April month. It is signed by Bro Lord Roberts and Bro A Conan Doyle, he was a Master Mason at that stage. It was when the English annexed the then Orange River Colony, later the Orange Free State Province, today the Free State Province.

I love history, and where I live in South Africa, it is in the middle of it, for that period of the Anglo Boer War.

Just thought you might like to know, regards.
