Firstly, Brethren, I have to declare that I am a complete technomoron, so I need all the help I can get!

I have just bought an eBook reader (Sony 600 touch screen reader). It appears to be the bee's knees and I'm very happy with it.

But I'm having great difficulty trying to get new books to install on it via the web, especially Masonic subjects.

Of course it doesn't help being resident in Luxembourg and trying to register the product on Sony's web site. The drop-down country list includes everwhere except Luxembourg, and if you select a neighbouring country it only allows the entry of an address in that country, so it is impossible to buy any books from Sony's own eBook shop! :crying:

What to do? Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

S&F,

Hi,
It is an issue with the type of file that the reader can handle. I am waiting for the Plastic Logic reader http://www.plasticlogic.com/ to come out (and be around for a while to iron the inevitable kinks out) before I invest in a reader as I have hundreds and hundreds of PDF files of a Masonic and Esoteric nature.

Try running a PDF on your reader. If it can accept them and they read OK PM me and I'll tell you some good sites for PDF files...

Thanks...

I can't see the point of buying one of these to be honest. If I had the extra cash I'd buy a better laptop or possibly a widescreen HD TV instead.

If I download a book I will either read it off the screen or print it out double sided and read it as hard copy. I feel these gadgets are simply a gimmick and will soon be forgotten. Fondue Set anyone?

dpends.

people said the same for 3G phones not too long ago. Why would anyone want to surf the web on their telephone?

I do know of people that have these devices and use them.

to each their own.

It's a multi-format reader. It reads .pdf, word, and several others. Hence why I bought it. It came preloaded with 250 books, mostly classics (100 English, 100 French and 50 Dutch), and I have transfered some of my own pdf and word docs with success.

Lauderdale: It's great for travelling. It fits in your pocket, same size as a paperback, but contains a whole library. I don't carry my laptop with me everywhere. Travel on the Eurostar to visit a Lodge in England? - NOT carrying my laptop! And, as a Europhile living in the green heart of Europe, still using our fondue set after thirty years, as well as the Raclette grill!

So, Brethren, back to question a) .....;)
