Brethren,

I am not Mr. Browns greatest fan to be honest but I am quite impressed with this article that I found on the Durham Provincial website.

A nice gesture by Dan Brown but I do not see what he has to apologise for. I have read the book and could find nothing therein that I found to be offensive to myself as a Freemason. Some of the terminology etc that Brown uses may sound strange to some  Brethren if they are not aware of the differences in other Constitutions, but all in all he does not do Freemasonry down. Indeed this book may encourage some people to apply to become Freemasons which in these days of Lodges going dark is no bad thing.

I find that a very nice letter. It is one with which it is hard to disagree.

An interesting point, of my friends who are masons, and others in my own obedience who have read the book; they heartily recommend it on vareious levels, not just that it is a good novel.

One friend who is also a living historian has likened Dan Brown's books to Allan W. Eckert's ( Frontiersman, Wilderness Empire, and the Conquorers  Not to mention That dark and Bloody River ) http://www.allaneck.com/publications.html

I do believe I will have to go get some books.

I don't think that this letter is an apology, for what I read he thnks the Council of the 33 for the invitation and he declares that Freemasorny is a interesting topic for him. For the proposer, I think that finding one shouldn't be too difficult.

I agree with Cuthbert.

It doesn't read like an appology and to be frank, I am sure he well knows he has nothing to appologise for...

Dan Brown has probably done more to benefit Freemason's lodgesin the United States than any Grand Master ever has.

I agree with the Doctor: if he joins I think they'll give him the honorary 33rd within a week.

Dan Brown is an entertainer, take him for what he is, I think to write a letter like that shows great humility.
