Lauderdale (21/10/2009) We won't see you at Surbiton on 31st Oct then Bro Vicky?
So sorry I wont be bro Lauderdale, though I wish I could make it! I was so very excited to meet everyone, but I suppose I will have to wait untill the next event. Also my gown that I had bought for the event was ruined in the fire, as was most of the rest of my clothes.
Whats realy upsetting me though is that my 2nd degree FC will now have to be put back, and I was so looking forward to taking it. I had made a stained glass candle holder for my lodge, but this got broke in the fire too.:crying:

Bro Vicky, I am very sorry indeed to hear of this and the disasters which befell you.
Can I remind you of the Phoenix which was reborn out of the ashes and of this famous words of the Alchemists Igne Natura Renovatur Integra, meaning, "All of Nature is Renovated by Fire," . INRI of course has a better known meaning to people as Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum (Latin for "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews," the inscription set above Jesus as he hung on the Cross at the Crucifixion. As a holder of the 18th Degree (Rose Croix) in the A&ASR of course both of these have great significance.
I am sorry we will not meet at the National Convention but hopefully the opportunity will arise in the future.
I am also PMing a link on this which you may find of interest.

I am sorry to hear your 2nd will be put back a bit.... but I can't help but feel glad with every word you type...you and yours are alive. That black yuck you coughed up is a good indication you did not have much more time before we would have heard of you in the not-so-funny papers. Believe me, even the firefighers end up with some of it up our noses and such.. We breath more of it than we should even with the airpacks. It is not pleasant. You are going to have to be extra careful when you get colds that you don't get bronchitus and pheumonia. It will be harder for you to shake it for a couple of years. Please promise me, moma-bird three things; One, that no live fire will ever be in your sleeping quarters again. NO ciggarettes, No candles, NO insence, ....(use dousing/snuffing covers on your ashtrays and insence if you have to) Two, you make sure there are smoke detectors on each level and in each bedroom....with the bedroom/sleeping quarters doors closed each night. Three, that you will keep us posted of your progress. I know you will be having your 2nd before long. You have needed to heal. I don't doubt that all will be perfect for that. It was nearly the day after you posted this news. There is a family here in town who were lucky. In their case the fire started in thier kitchen. They got out alive due to smoke detectors and bedroom doors being closed. They vacated to the roof of their house till the fire dept. got there. I will keep you in my prayers of healing.

Thank you brother Darylee! ((((((((hugs)))))))
Nothing lighted will ever be in my bedroom ever again, I can promise you that!!!
In fact before the fire happened I had candals lit in wall sconces all over the house, and burned incence every evening, so its a bit of a wonder that it dident happen sooner!
The candals and insence relax me, greatly, even in the bath! But I will be a million times more carefull in the future!

I'm glad to hear that.I, like you enjoy incense as well. The only one location I do sometimes leave one while in other places in the house is the bottom of the shower stall in the master bathroom. It has a glass enclosure and the walls are tiled to the ceiling. When I am ill, I often leave one of those long burning candles in there. It is like a huge lantern. I don't even leave the house with the clothes dryer running. I'm anal I know... I have a smoke detector in every room. But my excues is i've seen fires from incense, and candles. I think the most devistating was one where the candle rather blew up. It was burning with a good puddle of wax to feed the flame when apparently a pocket of water caught in the wax exploded. That hot wax ignited as it flew away with the eruption. It was on top of the families TV and they were watching the TV at the time. Fortunately nobody was injured. Whow is the leg doing? ....it is about time for that awful itch to start under the cast.

Hi there! :)
Well I had the cast removed today, and fortunatly all is well and I do not need an operation, just some thearpy on it, thats all. Its still twinging slightly so I have kept an ankle support on it for good measure!
I have bought some heavy duty "theater" fire proofing spray for when my home is liveable again, so hopefully I will be able to keep fllamble items, fireproof...I am absolutly terrified of this ever happening again!!
Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers! ((((((warm hugs))))))

Many years ago, I had a house fire, when the damage was repaired, everything was made fire retardant which was just as well as my son who was 18 months old at the time, one SUnday morning climbed utp to the top of a wall unit about 2 metres plus high , got a Gasmatch which had no child lock at the time and set fire to the lounge! The fire retardant worked and although we had to move out for about 10 days while repairs were made, the damage was considerably less than it might have been,
With the first fire, who was to say whether the electrician laid an electric cable touching a hot water pipe or the plumber had placed the pipe against the cable? SUfficient to say, it shorted out after several years and we lost the roof!

So sorry to hear you had a fire too!
But its good the fire retardent worked. Was it the spray type, like I have got?
When I get back into my home I am going to fire retard my whole house, and I am not having curtains in the bedroom anymore. I will be putting up blinds, which will be fire resistant.

A gasmatch is a butane lighter with a long nozzle, used for lighting fires and gas barbecues, the gas is ignited by a piezo-electric ignition system worked by a trigger. In those days there was no trigger lock to stop a small child lighting it. The current models have a childproof lock in the trigger mechanism.
We didn't have a sprinkler system, the materials and insulation used in the walls and ceiling were made of fire resistant material as were the drapes (curtains) and soft furnishings. What burned was wooden furniture (the wall unit), cloth nappies and children's clothing. We had mostly smoke damage.
In the first (roof) fire, fibreglass insulation in the ceiling saved the house itself from much damage, the fire got through a ventilation fan above the electric stove in the kitchen which caused a small amount of damage, however the roof was badly damaged and had to be replaced.
Most NZ houses are single storey bungalow type although on sloping sections can be stepped to allow for the contours
