I am about half way through this book now, which in itself gives a good idea of what I'm feeling about it I read his previous books really quickly.

There is one thing that keeps annoying me and that is his repeated statement that the symbol of the A&ASR is a double headed phoenix! How crap was his research??

Well, Dan Brown obviously is not an ornitholigist then? I read that but of course took him to mean "Eagle" as I have that symbol on my Rose Croix A&ASR tie

I'm stuck. In the The Lost Symbol, whats the significance of Langdons pocket watch where he leaves it behind in the restaurant. At first, Dan Brown goes to great lengths to describe it and obviously makes mention of the inscribed name "Alex Toil" on it which afterward is found to be erased. We don't hear any more of it later in the book. I must say I'm REALLY Confused here.;)

Tony.

I will have to look at that part again. Could "Alex Toil" be an anagram? Is the watch one with Masonic Emblems on the dial instead of the usual numbers or marks? I have one like that at home.

I have recently read 'The Davinci Code' and am now on to 'The Lost Symbol'.

In the former a few mentions were made of Freemasonry, with a lot of hints towards it without its mention by name. It is in this book that we can see where some avid antis get their ideas, there being a lot of sentances being amazingly familiar to anyone browsing the D.I. Forum.

The latter I am about a quarter through, and starting to get the impression Brown is attempting to right some wrongs with Langdons/His repeated assertions that Freemasonry is OK really etc.

I have to say I am enjoying his work, he has hit on a winning formula, however, I can see it for what it is.......Fiction. Sadly there are those who think every word is true, and then others who have the ability to immerse themselves so deeply into a book or TV program they begin to believe its true.

Overall I am glad I read his books, but happier still to be capable of separating fact from fiction.

If this book were to become a film, there would have to be a lot of corrections of Masonic facts.

I agree, but would they bother or dismiss the mistakes as "Dramatic Licence"?
