By all means shall we review the Minutes.

Active historic minutes would be Lodge of Edinburgh, No. 1

I guess from reading the other posts there has been older Lodges then LofEd.

Greetings Brethren,
Brother Steve, we seem to find our paths crossing again, could be something to ponder...
The predominate question is the distinction of the two elements(operative and speculative), this is important. I find that certain officers and furnishings of the lodges were retained through the transition, but I have found a noticeable difference in the content of the constitutions that governed the operative lodges and the speculative lodges.
Operative Masonry can be designated a trade and also has statues of government that dictate certain practices over and beyond the "bylaws and constitutions" of the Trade. We can see this is so especially with the control many of the monarchs and councils of a particular province during the operative age. As the Craft took a speculative evolution, we can see the limited amount of Government interference and control, and the constitutions began to govern a SOCIETY of Men.
This important perspective of masonic history has much implication, i.e Women admission, Jurisdictional authority, ritual work, and of course, the question of the oldest recorded or unrecorded Lodge proceedings.

Fraternally,
Brother John L. Hairston
